Our Story

You know how little kids always mess up certain words, but their version of those words just kind of stick? I can remember being a little girl, calling down the stairs for Mom or Dad to "kibbie me up". That was my version of "cover me up" before bedtime. Someone would come to tuck me in and tell me I was all "kibbie'd up". Great memories!

My husband and I lost our daughter at 23 weeks gestation due to preterm rupture of membranes - basically, my water broke too early. She was such a precious little girl, even though we didn't get that much time with her. One of the things that kept me going and is still helping me to heal is a little crocheted afghan that she was wrapped in. A wonderful lady in Jefferson City, Missouri had made it and donated it to the hospital, which then became a tangible way to remember our daughter.

With all the incredible support that we had during that difficult time, I realized I would never in a million years begin to repay all the people for what they had done - not that they would ever expect me to. So we decided to give back in the form of handmade baby blankets and hats for mommies that went through a loss like ours. Our hope is that these gifts bring comfort and healing to them, just as my little "kibbie" brought comfort and healing to me.

So, in memory of my daughter, Lia's Kibbies was born! We hope to show new moms that someone is thinking of them and is sending their love on that blessed day!
